Role of Parents
We believe that parents are the child’s first teacher and our Preschool aims to promote a meaningful and positive partnership with parents through the exchange of information about your child's experiences and interests. Parents are encouraged to talk to staff about their values and expectations for their child. This collaboration is a fundamental element in the development of a meaningful curriculum for the individual child. Parents also play a valuable role through their involvement in activities such as parent helpers duty and working bees.
Parent Helpers' Duty
Parents and other family members are welcome to come along to our preschool for a nominated session. Coming along to parent helpers duty is a great way find out about the current program themes and to have an informal chat about your child with Staff. During this time they can help out with educational activities or share a special interest or skill. Children love to have their special person visit the Preschool. It’s also a great way for parents to get to know the staff and other children.
A Preschool newsletter is distributed monthly to all families. Each child has an individual 'pocket', determined by the colour group. Permission forms, fees invoices and other notices are placed on your child's pocket.
Parents are also encouraged to check the notice boards regularly to keep up to date on Preschool news, upcoming events and current programs.
Committee of Management
Diamond Creek East Preschool is a not-for-profit community based organisation, which is operated by a Committee of Management (COM). The COM is made up of volunteers. Each year at the Annual General Meeting, parents volunteer for a position on the COM, without this contribution from parents our Preschool would not be able to operate. The COM is responsible for staff recruitment, developing policies, fee schedules, and maintaining the smooth operation and maintenance of the Preschool. They are supported in these roles by Nillumbik Shire Council, the Department of Education and Early Childhood and the Early Learning Association Australia.
Fundraising is an important part if maintain the resources of the Preschool. While participation is voluntary, the support of every family is encouraged.
At the start of Term 1 each family will be asked to select ONE weekend during the year to do general maintenance duty/mini working bee at the Preschool. At this time families can advise if they wish to “Opt Out” and pay $50 in lieu which will be invoiced to you separately.
